An Hour is Just About Enough

I just finished watching the Golden Globes special, and I gotta say, the 3 hours it usually takes is far too long.  I don't care what anyone is wearing, and I could usually care less what any of the winners have to say.  Except this year, I totally did.  First, someone I had actually heard of and was interested in was awarded the Cecil B. DeMille award.  Every other year it's some jerk no one cares about rambling on for ten mind-numbing minutes about the fantastic, inspirational experience of living in a closet-sized, shithole New York City apartment 30 years ago.  This year: Spielberg. Awesome.  I'm sure Tina Fey and David Duchovny would have been equally entertaining.

But second, and more important, Johnny Depp *finally* wins a major award (and a GG in particular after being nominated *8* freakin' times), and I get no acceptance speech.  Though, I'm not entirely fond of good actors not winning things until they sing in a movie (because, um, Johnny deserved awards far before this for say Pirates, Fear and Loathing, Ed Wood, Benny & Joon...), he did finally win and I had to listen to moronic "banter" between Billy whats-his-face and the-girl-I-get-confused-with-the-other-two-who-do-the-same-job instead of seeing an unbelievably hot man give what I'm sure would have been a very sweet, self-depricating, grateful speech.  Because why? OH, that's right, stupid writers not working (and bullying others to do the same) over $0.04.

Well, you know what writers? A best actor and a best picture award were given tonight to a work that no writer really laid a pen on.  So, SUCK IT.

P.S. What was with giving Best Actress in a Musical/Comedy to that crap-ass, subtitled French chick? And Director to a guy no one's every heard of for a movie that got no other nominations? Huh?!

Don't Make Me Come Over There

I was rather indifferent to the writers' strike until today.  I haven't really missed them.  I'm not a particularly big fan of unions, but no new TV has allowed me to catch up on my National Geographic.  So, picket to your heart's content.  But, I swear to God, if I miss a George Clooney or Johnny Depp Golden Globes acceptance speech because of this crap, I'm going to fly to LA and beat them over the head with their own freakin' picket signs.

And then possibly buy every TV show out on DVD before they see a cent of profits.  So there.
