I Shall Miss You

Or, at least, I shall miss hoping every week that you would improve, fair Gilmore Girls.  Because, let's face it, seasons 6 and 7 weren't your best, and most of this season wasn't even worth watching (so I didn't).  And, the last two seasons were also apparently the waste most of the viewing public have known them to be for quite some time since your farewell episode landed you almost exactly where you were at the end of season 4.  So, that's sad.

If you had more time, perhaps you could go back and re-do--pretend all those jump-the-shark moments never happened (namely: April, sleeping with Christopher, and marrying Christopher) like most of us already do.  You could un-stupid Rory (really, sleeping with Dean when he was married? Dropping out of Yale? Turning down a great job cuz you're greedy? NOT marrying Logan?), seriously un-stupid Lorelai  ("staying out of" Luke's relationship with his "daughter"? and...well, see above), never introduce those stupid friends of Rory's that I don't even know the names of, and make the show about...oh, I don't know....STARS HOLLOW?  So, I will miss your first five seasons, and I will miss waiting for you to improve because, sadly, that day shall never come.  But I did love you once upon a time and shall always remember those days as the days you were one of the best shows on tv.  EVER.

Yea for Luke!

Gotta love Luke 'cuz he's just so incredibly sweet.  I'm not really understanding why Lorelai is so attached to Christopher since he's ugly, pouty, selfish, and dull, but then, I never did get her attachment to Christopher.  And seriously? What grown man do you know who must use his entire name--instead of just "Chris"--it either means he's some intense kind of wiener or completely self-involved.  Or, in this case, both.

So, Luke takes orders from Emily after showing up without being asked, and Christopher shows up about 12 hours too late after ignoring his phone because he's licking his (very deserved) wounds, and Lorelai tearfully tells Chris next week that he's the man "she wants to want." Seriously? I guess you must be one of those girls who go for the homely, whiny types.  Well, I say good for you, because that leaves Luke for me :)  And really, that's stupid.  If she wanted to want him so much, she would.  She wants Luke because he's the better man.  She wants to want the man that she wants Christopher to be (not the man he is) because he's Rory's dad and has Emily's seal of approval.  It's not like she wants to want him because he's some great guy.

And how much did I love the look that Luke gave Christopher that just said, "do you want me to kick your ass again? 'cuz I will."?! Priceless.

So, Lorelai? Go get the loyal, loving, hard-working, self-sufficient, gorgeous guy who wants to be your doormat-in-a-good-way, and shut up with the tears and the whining over your loser high school boyfriend. K?

I ended the boycott last night...

of Gilmore Girls, and well, it, um, kinda...how do I say it? Sucked. Pretty much entirely because

And I think I'm officially sick now, and I'm not very happy about it.  How can I get one cold my entire four years of college, including freshman year when the girl next door had scarlet fever, and my roommate had some nasty thing with blisters in her throat and pink eye, and then have two in a span of less than 3 months when I don't go anywhere? Huh?

So...

I've decided that until we some Luke/Lorelai action, I'm going Gilmore Girl-less. 'Cuz Christopher is just plain nasty, and I'm getting really sick of the writers holding the audience hostage with his self-absorbed, M.I.A. self and the never-ending circle Luke and Lorelai seem to be going in. First, because it makes me mad and second, because it's B O R I N G. Like there's a shortage of entertaining bits and drama surrounding the planning and execution of a Stars Hollow wedding? Whateva!

Seriously!

I bought season 6 of Gilmore Girls, and the further into the series they get, the crappier the DVD seasons. I paid almost $40 for this season (in the week it came out, no less!) and there are no extras and no Gilmore-isms booklet. And the packaging is way crappier--downgraded from the first and second seasons for the second time! I bought season 9 of The X-Files for roughly the same amount, and they stayed true to the original packaging (which is pretty good) and included TWO FULL DISCS of extras. Grrr...Seriously!

P.S. I think the Eggo people are trying to make me crazy. Today I finally realized that it is impossible to make evenly-sized bites because there are an odd number of rows.

So it's still two weeks until the season premiere, but I got a very happy surprise today when I found that the sixth season is coming out on dvd next week! Woo! So I went to Amazon to see their price and decided to read some of the reviews. And I just have to say that those people are full of crap. Last season was totally the worst ever (still better than most other tv, but not nearly as good as other seasons) as most of the supporting cast was non-existent and just about every main character suffered monumental forms of assassination. There's no way Luke would put off marrying Lorelai when he spent eight years carrying around her horoscope, and there's no way Lorelai would put up with his stall tactics or stay away from April. The woman does what she wants and basically has no concept of boundaries or tact. I can't even get into abyss of stupidity that was sleeping with Christopher because Luke didn't jump at her teary, hysterical ultimatum. And I swear to god, if I have to hear one more time about how Rory was just too good to be realistic, someone is getting a spork in the eye. Ruining your ex-boyfriend's marriage or dropping out of college on a whim and completely shutting your mother out of your life is not part of growing up. It's selfish, immature, and just plain damn annoying. Personally, I would have to agree with Mitchum that Rory "don't got it" to be a foreign correspondent if one conversation sends her into that much of a tailspin. Rory was perfectly entertaining when she was nice and level-headed. I promise there really are people out there like that. I've met them. It just seemed like the whole season was one long attempt to put off the next step in the Luke/Lorelai relationship (i.e. marriage) because that would change the formula of the show, and gosh, the writers might have to get just a teeny bit creative and stop the with the circular movement of just about every relationship on the show. Jeepers.
